SWA Eye Screening at Shufu Thomson Residents’ Network

Singapore Women’s Association (SWA) organised a comprehensive eye screening event at Shufu Thomson Residents’ Network on 5 September 2025, graced by the presence of Guest-of-Honour MP Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Trade and Industry. This significant community health initiative brought together 32 dedicated volunteers to provide free eye examinations to residents as part of SWA’s Singapore VisionCare Programme.

Medical Team Excellence

The event was supported by an exceptional team of volunteer doctors from NUHS, People’s Association, Shufu Thomson Residents’ Network, and Marymount Constituency. Dr Stephanie Young, SWA’s 1st Vice President, led the medical team alongside Dr James Ding, Dr Lydia Tan, Dr Elizabeth Leong, and Dr Deborah Lee. The nursing support was provided by Sok Bee and Michelle Tan, both EEC Nurses who ensured smooth operations throughout the screening process.

Community Partnership and SWA Leadership

This successful initiative demonstrated strong community partnership, with Stephanie from Shufu Thomson Residents’ Network serving as the local coordinator and facilitating venue arrangements. SWA’s commitment was exemplified by the presence of key board members including Lee Li Hua (President), Charlotte Chia (Communications Director), Roxanne Zhang (3rd Vice President) and Kate Tan (Executive Director).

Comprehensive Volunteer Support

The event’s success was made possible by 32 dedicated volunteers who contributed their time and expertise: Anny, Wendy Khon, Deon Liew, Jevies Liew, Erika Sim, Chua Siew Wah, Vivien Lim, Hui Fang, Patricia Wee, Edmund Lee, Darren Lee, Valerie Loy, Grace Tan, Irene, Margaret, Iris Sim, Tan Kia Seng, Abigail Dawson, and Daniel Ng. Their collective effort ensured every participant received quality care and attention.

Singapore VisionCare Programme Impact
