Sara Mei Woo

Ms Sara Mei or Mei Woo is involved with Singapore Women’s Association (SWA) since 1975. She was actively involved in SWA’s first Miss Singapore World Beauty Pageant and in 1977 the Miss Singapore International beauty pageant. In 2015, Sara brought in the Miss Supranational title. She worked closely with Founder President, Mrs Seow Peck Leng on the launch of a memorable project, the first mobile eye screening for seniors, the Singapore Vision Care Program (SVP) launched in April 1990!

Sara was elected SWA President in March 2002 and appointed Advisor in 2014. SWA in 1959 is a founding member of the Federation of Asia-Pacific Women’s Association (FAWA) and Sara is actively involved since 1982. She had the opportunity to work and learning from our Founding President, the late Mrs Seow Peck Leng and was actively involved in the FAWA Convention held in Singapore in 1982, 1986 and as chair in 2004. Sara was elected FAWA International President 2014-2016 in Seoul, Korea and hosted the 22nd FAWA Convention in October 2016 in Singapore. At the 23rd FAWA Convention in Manila, Philippines, Sara is appointed Advisor since 2018. She had also served three terms on the SCWO Board.

Sara is instrumental in organizing fund-raising events for SWA’s local and overseas projects like film benefit, Himalaya. And mooted SWA Project Literacy–Education Through Theatre for PA Nepal, a home for children of prisoners. She attended the UN Forum ‘85 World Conference on Women in Nairobi and Beijing+25 in 1995. Presented country papers at Conventions and chaired Panel of Speakers and Workshops. In 2018, Sara launched the ongoing Project Taking Charge in 2018 for women from abused families living in shelters and currently as part of the committee for Project Rebuild 2021, a financial assistance scheme for women and children when leaving the shelters. For community outreach for seniors in day care centers during the pandemic, we at SWA launched Virtual Laughter for Health & Joy in 2020 with Certified Laughter Leaders & Ambassadors
