Singapore Women Association (SWA) and Symrise embarked on Project Rebuild in November 2021 to assist women and children impacted by domestic violence and take temporary refuge in the shelter to rebuild their lives for better futures.
On 11 June 2022, a trip to Universal Studio was planned. With that, we fulfilled what we set out in achieving our objective of promoting equality(SDG Goal 10) and quality education (SDG Goal 4) by incorporating normality with activities to assist integration and be part of a trauma recovery process. The full-day event comprising 74 participants(women and children) including 10 volunteers and 7 organising committee members delivered much joy to the residents of the shelters.
We expanded their children’s horizons through hands-on experience with the rides and knowledge-embedded exhibitions during this trip. They were introduced to various American cartoon characters and nuances first-hand.Taking on the rides helped them relate to the maths and science subjects better. The children were amazed by the engineering of such pleasures.
Meeting the various characters helped the younger children get in touch with creativity as their exposure was enriched by a trip that many of us have taken for granted. They were provided with meal vouchers to budget and utilize on the grounds at their discretion.
The trip crystallized the concept of education in schools and how it translates to the impact of exploration and joy in their young minds. It has also provided the much-needed relief, fellowship and support that the parent has been missing during their difficult moments.
Symrise and SWA are extremely grateful for the opportunity to bring forth such initiatives to the participants in Project Rebuild and we hope that the public will continue to support our initiatives through online contributions or as a guest for our upcoming charity dinner in October.
